Today my mare had her teeth done for the first time without sedation. Charlotte was so sympathetic and took her time letting my horse get used to the noise of the rasp etc…. and also giving her lots of fuss to put her at ease (which it did!). The visit today was such a positive experience for both my mare and I. Charlotte is so professional and highly experienced, I recommend her to anyone looking for a dentist. This is my first time using Northern Horse Dentistry and I’m so impressed with the service I received. Ferdi was very challenging while Charlotte had the patience of a saint and did not give up on him until his treatment was finished to her standard. He unfortunately had very sharp teeth which had made his cheeks sore, Charlotte picked up on this straight away. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an equine dentist. I will be using Charlotte from now on, thank you very much!

I won an Instagram competition for a free rasp. I had Charlotte out today for Gus who is a nervy character to say the least. She was so quiet and patient with him and sorted all his sharp points so that his mouth is feeling comfortable again. I would 1000% recommend. The electric rasp means the teeth can be sorted in a more speedy way so even the most impatient horses don’t get fed up. Gus definitely seems happier now. Thank you so much.

Can’t recommended Charlotte enough! Came out to my youngster and tried without sedation but because the youngster was wary and wasn’t liking it decided it was best to come out later and see her sedated. Came out today and couldn’t be happier with how she dealt with my youngster, giving her a nice 1st experience. She was in no rush to get the job done and made everything pleasant.

Charlotte has helped me avoid problems of unwillingness to work in a bridle when working on my new pony, as she found her teeth had never been touched, so were very sharp and her mouth was ulcerated. Working on a top racing yard I understand the importance of having a good equine dentist as a comfortable mouth can make the difference between winning and losing. I believe it is just as important for my own horses to be comfortable in their mouths as these equine athletes. As a qualified veterinary surgeon I understand the importance of good dental care but after years of specialising in just small animals I decided that I wasn’t able to give my new horse the expertise he needed. I contacted Charlotte at Northern Horse Dentistry who was happy to fit in with my work schedule and travel to Lancashire on a Saturday to have a look at him.
Joey was a bit of a difficult customer to start with. Even under heavy sedation he resented use of the hand rasps so when Charlotte brought out the power tools I was more than a bit nervous! Surprisingly he accepted this method really well and thanks to Charlotte’s patience and calm handling the whole experience seemed quite positive.
Since this initial visit Joey has had regular 6 month check ups with Charlotte and he now tolerates the procedure without sedation.
I would thoroughly recommend Northern Horse Dentistry to any horse owner who is looking for a dentist with the knowledge and skills required to keep a horse both healthy and happy.

My pony, Dutchess, is wary of strangers especially since she had an injury which needed stitches and the vet had to double dose her with sedative to stitch her. Dutchess also needed sedating for her teeth to be done. I wasn’t happy with sedating her for anything which needed to be done and I was convinced she needed time and understanding for her teeth to be done without sedative so I was looking for a dentist who would work with me to achieve this goal.
A friend recommended Charlotte, and when Charlotte managed to get the gag on Dutchess and feel her teeth (without sedative) I felt I had found the right person. That was as much as Dutchess would tolerate the first time, so I arranged for Charlotte to come back when Dutchess was sedated and she gave her teeth the full rasp they required.
Charlotte has been Dutchess’ dentist for 2 ½ years now and can carry out the full procedure with no sedative. It has taken a lot of time, kindness and firmness to get this far but Charlotte’s dealings with my stroppy pony have been excellent and I have no hesitation recommending her to others. Like most owners I am very particular about who deals with my pony, but I have no hesitation allowing Charlotte to handle her.

Case Study,
This is an 8 year old thoroughbred mare that had retired from racing 2 years previously and had never had her teeth done. She had no other medical conditions. Her teeth were still very level but were so long at the sides that they were growing so far into the cheeks she was struggling to chew her food, and the food she was swallowing hadn’t been grinded up enough for her to digest. She was immediately rasped with the electric rasps and in just 3 months she was almost back to full weight.
